Historical Reference Library

Church of God in Christ, Mennonite

Moundridge, Kansas

Welcome to the Historical Reference Library online. The library in Moundridge is the fulfillment of a concept envisioned by Ben Giesbrecht, who suggested the development of a "reading room" where his historical collection and other material could be made available for students of history.  He was a diligent scholar of church history and wrote two books about the New Testament church since the time of Christ: Keeping the Faith and The Enduring Church. We are deeply indebted to his contribution to the church in recording our heritage for us and future generations. He also left a wealth of personal notes and correspondence relating to his work with the church's missions and peace witness.

Through the untiring efforts of many writers since Biblical times, it has always been a priority of the church of God to leave a clear record of faith and practice as a testimony of the grace of God and to encourage those who follow to keep "the faith once delivered unto the saints." That mission continues, in a small part, through the ongoing development of the Historical Reference Library.

Visiting the online library

The documents available for your review can be accessed through the LIBRARY CATEGORIES page. Select your choice of category and open the available files. Enjoy your visit and come often. More selections will be offered as items are processed that have already been received and as additional material is donated or loaned to the library as explained on the "Donating Historical Material" page.

Obviously, a library is a place for books and there are many books in the Historical Reference Library. A few of them may be offered in digital format on this website  through the BOOKS selection on the LIBRARY CATEGORIES page. To have access to most of them, though, will require a visit to the library in Moundridge. The "Book in the library" button below will open a complete listing of the books in the library. Books highlighted in gray are from the Ben Giesbrecht collection. If,  as you review that list, there are books

missing that

  • represent the doctrine of the Bible as believed and practiced by God's church

  • record in some way the history of the church of God

  • present the Low German history that is part of the heritage of many in church,

please suggest them for inclusion in the library.
